Cooking with Miss Holly- Dumplings

On to another cooking lesson with Miss Holly. We made dumplings! We tried to get Jack and Grace really excited by reminding them that Kung Fu Panda ate dumplings. They tried them and I think secretly liked them. The taste definately grew on them with each bite that we were making them eat. :)

First we made the dough and rolled little balls.  Then, she flattened them into little pancakes.  When I tried she was quick to show me that I was rolling them flat when actually, they leave a little pillow of dough in the middle of the pancake.  She showed me a new technique to achieve the pillowed pancake.

Next, we filled them with our pork and lettuce mixture with many seasonings.  You can fill them with so many things and Jeff thought you could put cheese inside for ravioli.  Good idea!

Lastly, she showed me how to pinch them closed into the traditional dumpling shape.  She also made sun shapes which were fun.  They were ready for the pot of boiling water.  You can also steam them or pan fry them.

We ate them with soy sauce with a little chili sauce added.  With sides of sauteed veggies, it was a great new meal!
