The Chinese Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival is a lunar holiday celebrated in September here is China. It's traditions stem from the legendary stories of the Moon goddess of Imortality. Basically, people buy mooncakes and give them to friends and family in celebration. They also celebrate with hanging lanterns.
Mooncakes are a pastry filled with lotus seed past and duck egg yolks. The hotel across the street from us opened up a store to sell mooncakes for the weeks leading up to the festival. It was always very very busy with customers coming in to buy assortments of mooncake gift packages with teas, etc.
